As part of its commitment to remain accountable to the communities and practitioners it serves, the Community Engagement Forum (CEF) has released Beyond Tokenism: Displaced Persons’ Participation in the Community Engagement Forum, a report authored by Epa Ndahimana. The study examines how displaced persons can access, participate in, and shape the CEF, while also offering insights for global platforms that seek to better reach and involve local displaced practitioners.
Findings reveal that many refugees and internally displaced persons (IDPs) struggle to access current platforms, which are often text-heavy, English-only, and designed for international practitioners. Yet, the research also shows a strong willingness to engage if barriers are reduced.
The report concludes that inclusive, co-designed engagement is both possible and essential. Its insights are valuable not only for the CEF but also for any global initiative seeking to connect with displaced practitioners.
