Country synopsis
Almost two million people in Gaza have been displaced by incursions, attacks on IDPs sites, and repeated evacuation orders. The overwhelming majority of displaced people (about 90%) live in hundreds of sites throughout the Gaza Strip. There is no safe or dignified site in Gaza and with limited assistance and materials entering Gaza, displaced people living in makeshift sites, UNRWA Designated Emergency Shelters, and other collective centers do not have access to adequate drinking water, hygiene materials, toilets, food, educational opportunities, or health services. Moreover, thousands of individuals live in sites along the coast or in flood prone areas and face further displacement as well as health and safety risks in winter months. Site management partners work closely with site-level committees to support coordination, prioritization of site needs, site development, and community engagement opportunities.
